About this location

A spectacular Grade I listed castle with a moat and 300 acres of woodland, fields and themed gardens. Built in the 1400s, this idyllic castle has all the traditional features - crenellations, a curtain wall and an impressive moat. Red brick was a rare luxury at the time of construction, and no expense was spared. It has had multiple uses across the centuries, including housing records during WWII and as a base for the Royal Greenwich Observatory. The garden walls date back to 1510, and the gardens themselves feature beautiful English yew hedges, croquet lawns, a rose garden and a 'Long Border' of Indian bean trees. Beyond these is a five acre wildflower meadow, a Folly with a walled garden, and a sprawling ancient woodland. Inside, there is an impressive ballroom, a wood-panelled boardroom, and a smaller Elizabethan room with intricately carved staircases and a tapestry hanging over the large fireplace. Other areas such as conference rooms and seminar rooms are also available, and there is also accommodation and plenty of parking on site.
