Our flat is a top floor apartment in a beautiful Victorian mansion - once the home of Queen Victoria's physician. We sit at the corner of two relatively quiet roads, on top of a hill overlooking Crouch End and Alexandra Palace. Entering the building is a relatively spacious and simply decorated hall, that takes you up three flights of narrow-ish steps to our apartment. We have one neighbouring flat across the hallway.
The flat itself is really quirky. We've taken great joy in decorating it in an eclectic combination of styles, colours, and textures. Entering the flat you'll be in a corridor, which is pretty narrow - about 1m wide but about 10m long. We're in the process of decorating this currently.
At one end of the corridor is the office, a bright yellow room with two desks. We love the pitched ceilings in this room, and the cute window that offers a vantage point of Aly Pally on your left, Tottenham Hotspur stadium, and all the way to Epping Forest in the distance.
Next to the office is the open plan kitchen and lounge. This is a great-sized room that includes high, pitched ceilings, an original Victorian fireplace, and a big window overlooking the mansion's communal garden and quiet suburban street of grand Victorian houses. We have a lot of colour in this room, including one lime washed wall and a painted mural of oranges.
Beside the kitchen/lounge is our bedroom. This is a big room that we've painted a gorgeous dark blue. It has built in wardrobes and more high, pitched ceilings, and another Victorian fireplace. The window is smaller in this room, but affords the same view of the quiet suburb outside.
At the end of the hallway and up a couple of steps is the bathroom. We're currently renovating this but when it's done, it'll have a marble-effect shower and dark blue sink/toilet. There's no external light in this room and the ceiling is quite low.
The hidden gem of the flat is accessed through a loft ladder that comes down into the corridor. Up the ladder you'll find an unexpected, absolutely huge roof wooden terrace, that gives you stunning panoramic views of London - Muswell Hill and Aly Pally on the left, the entirely of East London in front of you, and distant Canary Wharf/central London beyond the treeline on the right. We haven't really got much on the terrace yet except for a couple of chairs and some fairy lights, but expect to decorate this more towards the end of the year. Because the only access to the terrace is via a loft hatch, access is tight. Flat pack furniture only!
