Our home is a thoughtfully remodelled and extended 1930s semi-detached house in North East London. As an architect, I designed the transformation to create a contemporary family home that combines the character of the original house with a striking modern extension.
The house features a dramatic full-width rear extension with extensive glazing, an exposed Douglas fir structure, bespoke joinery and generous open-plan living spaces filled with natural light. Throughout the home we have used warm natural materials and carefully considered detailing to create a contemporary yet welcoming environment that still feels like a genuine family home rather than a show house.
To the rear is a beautifully landscaped 30-metre garden with contemporary timber decking, mature planting and a detached architect-designed garden studio. Beyond the garden, the property backs onto a London railway line, providing an authentic urban backdrop with occasional passing trains and elevated views that may suit a variety of productions.
